Until January 2014 I was a research assistant professor and the deputy leader of the iron ore theme in the CET. I received a Geology degree (diploma) at Goethe-University, Frankfurt, in 2001 and a PhD at Ruprecht-Karls-University, Heidelberg, in 2007. I joined the CET in 2008 at the research associate level.

My primary research focus is ore genesis, mineral system analyses, and exploration targeting of iron ore in banded iron formation, the major source of iron for the world economy. In this research field I achieved an international reputation amongst relevant academic and industry circles by applying modern techniques of structural geology, geochemistry, mineral system analyses, and exploration targeting to major iron ore districts in collaborations with key industry partner and scientists worldwide.
My secondary research focus is orogenic gold, porphyry-hosted gold-copper, and skarn-related iron-gold-copper mineralisation in the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera.
In my appointment at the CET I am involved in the supervision of MSc students and in other knowledge transfer activities, such as lecturing, holding workshops, and leading field trips. I have published peer-reviewed papers in international journals, co-chaired special sessions at international conferences, and co-led several workshops.

My professional expertise are: structural geology, low-grade metamorphic geology, igneous, hydrothermal, and regolith geochemistry, ore deposit evolution, and mineral system analyses. In the lab environment I am familiar with mineral chemistry analytic, rock magnetism, stable O, C isotope chemistry and radiogenic Pb/Pb, U/Pb, and Lu/Hf isotope chemistry.
