Key Research

In the AngloGold Ashanti, I am working in the role of Senior Manager – Structural Geology in the Assets Development Brownfields global team of technical specialists. The main task of the team is to collect and synthetise existing and new structural, geophysical and geochemical data in order to provide new targets for Brownfields operations. My further task is to train and mentor local geologists in techniques of structural geology and interpretations of geological observations. I collaborate with the Centre for Exploration Targeting at UWA as an Adjunct Research Fellow and co-supervisor of PhD theses.

In the Centre of Exploration Targeting I worked on the one-to-one research project with AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. The project focuses on controls on the genesis, geometry and location of the Obuasi, Siguiri and Sadiola gold deposits in West Africa within the context of the regional geological framework of the Paleoproterozoic Birimian terrane. I co-supervise three PhD students, Erwann Lebrun in Siguiri and Denis Fougerouse in Obuasi and Quentin Masurel in Sadiola. The project is a part of the AMIRA West African Exploration Initiative (WAXI) between research institutions, mining companies and governments of West African countries.

My PhD and further academic research was focused on understanding orogenic processes in lithosphere through detailed field structural and microstructural studies of deformed crustal as well as mantle rocks. I was dealing mainly with mechanical properties of rocks during natural deformation from orogenic zones. During my PhD, I learned new techniques of microstructural analysis and synthesized the field and lab data into a geotectonic model. In the Institute of Geophysics (IG) of the Czech Academy of Sciences, I combined field-oriented research of naturally deformed rocks with experimental investigation of petrophysical properties of rocks, such as micro-porosity in locations tested for a radioactive waste repository site.
