John is a geologist and geostatistician with 30 years project, technical expert and audit experience across 5 continents. His current role is Group Head of Geosciences for Anglo American PLC, based in Perth, Australia. Previously John was VP Mineral Resources for AngloGold Ashanti. Prior to AngloGold, John was a Director of specialised resource consulting firm QG for 11 years, and before that a Technical Director at SRK Consulting.

John has geology degrees from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology & the University of New England, a Master of Science (Mining Geostatistics) from the University of Leeds and a Masters of Business and Technology from the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM, University of UNSW).

John is currently Adjunct Professor of Geology at The University of Western Australia and sits on the board of CET; he is also Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland (WH Bryan Centre), where he has been involved in industry research that aims to develop “whole of value chain” evaluation methods for mining projects. He was an adjunct faculty member of Duke Corporate Education (Duke University, North Carolina) from 2006-2012, and delivered 18 senior and executive programs for Rio Tinto, across the globe.

John is a Fellow of both the AusIMM and the AIG and for 11 years (1997-2008) was a member of the JORC Committee.  He is also a Fellow of SEG and the Geological Society (UK), a member of the Geological  Society of Australia and a life member of the International Association for Mathematical Geoscience.

He has published over the years on geostatistics, mining geology, geometallurgy, project evaluation, philosophy of science  and mineral exploration.
