Deon De Bruin holds BSc and PhD degrees from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. His PhD was on mantle derived xenoliths and megacrysts from the Schuller and Premier kimberlites. He has specialized in mineralogy and electron microscopy but also has experience in all aspects of the interpretation of geochemical data of rocks and minerals. He was the manager of the Analytical Laboratory and Regional Geochemistry Division of the Geological Survey of South Africa for ten years.

Deon moved to Perth in 2006 and established Diamond Indicator Minerals Pty. Ltd. He provided quality and high volume electron probe analytical analyses used in kimberlite exploration until 2011. He is a consulting geochemist at Intertek Genalysis and has also served as a database and QAQC consultant for Maxwell Geoservices.

He is an Editorial board member for the journal Geochemistry: Exploration, Environment, Analysis and is a member of the South African Council for Natural Scientists (SACNASP) and Australian Institute for Geoscientists (MAIG). He is part of the Working Group to establish a Geochemical Map of the World. He has been an Adjunct Research Fellow, School of Earth and Environment, University of Western Australia for the last three years.

Research

His research interests are kimberlites, diamond exploration, mantle minerals (specifically megacrysts in kimberlites). He has experience with a variety of analytical techniques for the analysis of minerals and rocks, regional scale geochemical mapping programs and interpretation of geochemical data.
