Alan Aitken is the UWA lead researcher on a successful bid for a $20M ARC-funded Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science that will revolutionise predictions of the future of East Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. The team of more than 40 of Australia’s best Antarctic and Southern Ocean researchers will understand the complex interactions of the ocean, ice sheets, atmosphere and ecosystems that will govern Antarctica’s future. Alan leads the UWA component in this centre, with a core contribution to reconstructing Antarctica’s past environment and the risks for our future sea level. Also he hopes to consolidate and expand WA’s Antarctic research community.  This is a fantastic achievement for Alan and his colleagues - and well earned congratulations!!!
