Careers over Beers

Jun 12, 2019

On Thursday 23rd May the CET hosted a Careers over Beers event, giving our UWA Geology students the opportunity to hear about career opportunities and advice from four industry experts. Our four presenters provided a unique insight into their own careers, in relation to their workplace, the careers on offer in the industry, career transitions and development, hints and tips when travelling, the 'Grit and the Glory', and all the benefits of working in the mineral exploration space.

Feedback on the event has been extremely positive so we will look at doing similar events in the future. Some comments from our attendees:

"Absolutely the best networking/student event I've ever attended!!!!"

"This event was an excellent eye-opener for future geologist as well as PhD students and post docs. The insight provided was excellent and I was really happy with the talks. I truly believe this event should be repeated."

"I liked the small and almost intimate format of the event. I hope you can keep organising such events."

A special thankyou to our four presenters for giving their time and for their interesting and informative presentations:
  • John Vann, Group Head of Discovery & Geosciences at Anglo American
  • Jen Roskowski, Exploration Geologist at First Quantum Minerals
  • Paul Polito, Exploration Manager at Independence Group (IGO)
  • Lisa Vella, Principal Geophysicist at Rock Solid Geophysics
