CET-WB Transfer Pricing in Mining book launched at Chatham House, London
Aug 10, 2018
The World Bank – CET book “Transfer Pricing in Mining with a Focus on Africa – A Reference Guide for Practitioners” was launched in London’s Chatham House on 7 June 2018 as part of an international session on “Making the Most of Africa’s Resources: Addressing Transfer Pricing in Extractive Industries”.
Although invited, Dr. Pietro Guj, the leading author of this publication, was prevented by work commitments to attend the launch, but two of the co-authors, Mr. Boubacar Bocoum from the WB and Ms. Stephanie Martin, a consultant to Centre for Exploration Targeting attended the session.
The session was chaired by Dr Jorg Wiegratz, from the School of Politics and International Studies, University of Leeds, was well attended with participants representing a number of African countries, key NGOs and other stakeholders.
The book is unique in that it brings together technical aspects of the mining sector as well as mining taxation and provides an end-to-end transfer pricing experience for tax administrations, starting from selecting the right cases through risk assessment, audit and final negotiation and resolution.
Hopefully the book will make a contribution to strengthening the administrative capacity of some mineral rich African countries to set fair regulatory and fiscal regimes which will contribute to attract foreign direct investment to their countries and in the process alleviate their poverty.
