September. Matt Kanakis, previously a CET Honours student and now of KPMG, presented a paper co-authored with CET Professors Allan Trench

; and CET PhD students Sam Ulrich
and John Sykes
entitled: "Is grade king in gold? A preliminary analysis of gold production costs at Australian and New Zealand mines". Sam Ulrich will develop this research further as part of his PhD. Siobhan Sullivan, a PhD student at the UWA School of Plant Biology presented a paper entitled: "Transforming the future of minerals exploration" that was co-authored with John Sykes
and Allan Trench
of CET, Cam McCuaig
of BHP Billiton, Tim Craske of Geowisdom, Joe Dwyer of HiSeis, Naren Subramaniam of Transmin and independent consultant Will Turner. The paper was based on a scenario planning workshop at CET in June, which looked at the future of minerals exploration, as part of John Sykes’ PhD research.
