Over 120 CET Corporate Members, Industry Professionals and University personnel came along to the University Club of Western Australia last month to help celebrate the contribution Professor Cam McCuaig has made to the CET and the University of Western Australia over his 11 year tenure.
The UWA Earth and Environment Head of School, Professor Matthew Tonts, described his lasting influence:
“Cam has had a tremendous impact on UWA, and specifically in the geosciences. The Centre for Exploration Targeting has become a global leader in exploration geosciences under his leadership, and has developed a research culture that has successfully straddled fundamental science and industry impact. The CET has a vibrant scientific community spanning experienced researchers, PhD students and industry partners, and is a model for the future of university research.”
Professor McCuaig is leaving UWA to take up a position with BHP Billiton where he will help establish and new Geoscience Centre of Excellence. Professor Mark Jessell has agreed to take on the role of Acting Director of CET as we begin to lead the Centre into the next phase of its development.
Cam will be greatly missed by all who have worked with him, but we look forward to working closely with him in his new and exciting Industry role.
The CET would also like to thank Anglogold Ashanti
, Anglo American
, BHP Billiton
, Evolution Mining
and the Energy and Minerals Institute
for their sponsorship of this event.
